Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman seemed happy with his team’s 3-1 victory over Girona on Saturday that made it two wins out of two so far in pre-season.
Goals from Gerard Pique, Rey Manaj and a first Barcelona strike from Memphis Depay secured the win and had the Dutchman full of praise for his new signing.
“Depay has played more minutes than expected but he is a high quality player, he has shown it at certain moments of the game and it is important because in the attacking positions you have to have competition and this is very good.”
Koeman was also happy with the way his team played and that he was able to give senior stars such as Frenkie de Jong, Antoine Griezmann, and Clement Lenglet some pre-season minutes.
“I think the game has had more rhythm, also our opponent, Girona, is a good team that tries to play and it was a good game for preseason,” he added. “There was rhythm, a lot of play on both sides and I’m happy to have added more minutes and the players who have joined the most recently have played. It’s all positive.”
The Barca boss also had a few kind words for Antoine Griezmann after the match who continues to be linked with a Barca exit. The Frenchman played the last 30 minutes and won the penalty which Memphis converted to make it 3-1.
