Not signing Lionel Messi is obviously the biggest loss for Barcelona this offseason. However, if they don’t solve at least some of their salary cap problem, there will be further issues with depth.

New signings won’t be able to register for La Liga including the already-injured Sergio Aguero and actual important player Memphis Depay. Samuel Umtiti is a player Barcelona have been keen to let go but there haven’t been that many interested parties.

There is some slightly good news on the Umtiti front. Portuguese daily Record reported (via Sport Witness) this week that Benfica may actually be interested in Umtiti.

The problem resides around his salary. Barca would probably be willing to let him leave for nothing, but Umtiti would be forced to take a pay cut. The alternative is Barca continues to pay a portion of his wage just to get the majority of it off the books.
