Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has praised his old teammate Gerard Pique after the center-back agreed a substantial paycut at the Camp Nou.
The Catalan giants confirmed on Saturday that they have been able to register Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, and Rey Manaj “thanks to an agreement with Gerard Piqué whereby the Barça second captain’s salary has been substantially reduced.”
Puyol took to Twitter with a message for Pique that read, “great from you, friend,” accompanied by the hashtag “commitment.”
The Barca legend wasn’t the only player impressed by Pique. Several other stars praised the 34-year-old on social media after the news of his pay cut was announced.

Coach Ronald Koeman also discussed Pique’s gesture in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Real Sociedad. He said, “I think it’s important we highlight the attitude of Pique, Roberto, Busquets and Alba because they are have been defending this badge for many years and want to help the club.”
