Memphis Depay has hit the ground running since arriving at Barcelona. The Dutchman arrived on a free transfer and already has two goals to cap off two impressive performances in his first couple of matches in preseason, and he’s certainly giving the critics something to think about.

Ronald Koeman is reunited with the player he coached in the Dutch national team, and it is no surprise that the Barça manager is delighted with the start Memphis has had. But beyond Depay’s quality, it is his attitude that has satisfied Koeman the most.

“Memphis is an extremely difficult player to defend. But beyond what he brings, Memphis has come with a lot of hunger to show his quality; we are very happy.”

With no Ousmane Dembélé due to injury and the status of Lionel Messi very much still up in the air, Memphis figures to be a crucial part of the attack in the early stages of this season alongside Antoine Griezmann and Sergio Agüero, and seeing him get off to a strong start is a good sign of things to come when the real games begin.
