Lucas Torreira is expected to complete a loan move to Fiorentina that would likely scupper Miralem Pjanić’s proposed loan to the Italian club. The Uruguayan is currently an Arsenal player, though he played last season on loan to Atlético Madrid. It’s understood he will be sealing his move to Florence today, giving FC Barcelona a headache as they seek to offload Pjanić’s massive contract.
Torreira preferred joining the viola over Eintracht Frankfurt, who also made a play for him.
Juventus is the Bosnian’s favorite destination but they have been unable to find a place for Aaron Ramsey, who also is on high wages. Thus they don’t have the space in the wage bill to sign Pjanić, and they may not find it.
Fiorentina was reportedly considering taking the Bosnian on loan, with Barcelona subsidizing part of his wages, but that appears to be off the table.
Several Serie A clubs, notably Napoli, have been linked in the press with a move for Pjanić, who has a long history of stellar play in Italy.
Pjanić was exchanged by Juventus for Arthur, in a move aimed at balancing the books for both the Turin club and for the Catalans. A reunion with Max Allegri, who is back in charge at the Juventus Stadium, has long been rumored but is looking unlikely to materialize.
In addition, another former club of the Bosnian’s, AS Roma, is said to also be trying to bring him into the fold. That leaves Roma and Napoli as the main candidates as of now to take him.
