Another large salary has bitten the dust. According to a report from ESPN, captain Sergio Busquets has become the third Barcelona player to accept a massive cut to his salary.

The pay cut comes on the back of Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba also accepting salary reductions in lieu of Barcelona’s financial troubles. The overall goal in these pay cuts has been for Barcelona to be able to cut their wage bill in order to be in compliance with La Liga’s financial fair play rules.

The report also details that Busquets is also still owed money from taking a previous pay cut to help with the COVID economic fallout last year. Safe to say once Barca are back on their feet Mr. Busquets will be owed quite a bit of money.

The reduction agreed by Pique allowed Barca to register new signings Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia, while it’s thought that the wage cuts made by Busquets and Alba will mean Sergio Aguero can now be registered by the Catalan giants.
