Memphis Depay has won the goal of the month award given by FC Barcelona, for the best goal scored in the month of August.
Memphis’s effort at San Mamés, in a 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao was chosen via fan vote.
There were four nominees in the running, including two by Memphis. One was the goal against Athletic that won, and the other one was against Getafe. Gerard Piqué and Martin Braithwaite were also nominated for goals against Real Sociedad.
With Barcelona trailing 1-0 in the second half against Athletic, Sergi Roberto hooked a hopeful long ball towards Memphis. The Dutchman raced to control it, took a few touches to set himself up, then smashed the ball on the bounce from an acute angle. The keeper was left with no chance and Memphis rescued a point for the Catalans.
Memphis continues to be in a hot streak ever since arriving from Lyon on a free transfer, both for his new club and for the Netherlands.
