Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic claims that “even Lionel Messi” didn’t understand Ronald Koeman’s attitude towards him during his time at the Camp Nou.
Pjanic spent most of last season on the bench after being overlooked by the Dutch coach and ended up leaving the club to join Besiktas on loan.
The midfielder admits he couldn’t spend another season on the sidelines and says that Messi used to ask him why he wasn’t playing.
“Besiktas wanted me strongly in the last days of the transfer market and I couldn’t stay in Barcelona with Koeman, I would have lost another year and I didn’t want to,” he said.
“Koeman had an attitude with me that no one understood, not even Messi. Leo, last year, told me several times: ‘But why doesn’t he let you play? Has something happened?
“Besiktas are the Turkish champions, they are in the Champions League and… they have a black and white jersey. They welcomed me in a great way, it will be another great challenge.”

Pjanic also admitted he had been eager to return to Juventus and there was contact with the Serie A giants but a deal to return to Turin just could not be done. The midfielder will now spend the season with Besiktas but there is no purchase option in the deal.
