Emerson Royal was only a Barcelona player for a matter of months but has still come up with a pretty emotional goodbye message to the Catalan giants.
The defender has moved on to Tottenham Hotspur, signing a five-year deal, after Barca accepted a €25 million bid from the Premier League club.
Emerson always made it clear it was his dream to succeed at the Camp Nou but leaves after just three appearances in a Barcelona shirt.
It’s a tough break for the Brazilian but he’s come up with a pretty class take on the situation as he heads for a new adventure in north London.
“Well Barcelona our meeeting was very fast. I think you’ve heard my childhood dream was to wear your shirt, meet your fans, your stadium. That child who, when he was little, wore red and blue, opened his eyes and found himself in front of an older man, willing to defend you and help you honor you with everything he deserves,” he wrote.
“We all know, dreams have no size, no shape, no time. I woke up. And when that happened. I received all the love from the fans, from the teammates, I stepped onto your pitch, with all my desire. Thank you for having lived a little of what I always imagined. We never know what lies ahead. We never know if dream is a little reality or reality is a little dream….Rejoice Barcelona! I want to think you for believing in that dreamy boy.”
Emerson’s departure means Sergino Dest is now Barca’s first choice right-back for 2021-22. Oscar Mingueza is also available, while Sergi Roberto may now find himself back in defense after starting the new season in midfield.
Good luck at Spurs, Emerson Royal!
