Girona director Quique Cárcel has reiterated his desire to bring Oriol Romeu back from Barcelona in the summer if the opportunity arises.

Romeu only returned to the Camp Nou in July on a three-year deal but there’s already been plenty of buzz about a potential move back to Girona.

Carcel has once again been asked about the speculation and made it clear he’d be more than welcome to re-sign Romeu.

“If the option arises that Oriol Romeu leaves Barça we would like to get him back,” he said.

“Here he would be important. Neither the club nor the player have told us that he can leave, but if he leaves we would like to have him.”

Romeu started the season in the team but has fallen out of favor recently despite Xavi being without several regulars due to injury.

The Catalans are believed to be keen to bring in a new pivot either in January or next summer, meaning it would be no surprise to see Romeu depart after just one season.
