Spain have confirmed that Gavi has suffered a “significant injury” to his right knee with the Barcelona midfielder set to undergo more tests.
Gavi was forced off in the first half of Sunday’s clash with Georgia and looked to be in real pain as he hobbled off the turf.
The RFEF have now had an initial check on the youngster and say he has a “major injury” and more tests will be needed.
Team doctor Óscar Luis Celada told Spanish broadcaster RTVE the team are “very worried” about Gavi who looks set for a lengthy spell out.
More tests will now be needed before an official diagnosis is but the fear is he’s torn his ACL which will likely rule him out for the rest of the season.
Spain’s players seem to be well aware that Gavi has suffered a real issue. Ferran Torres held up Gavi’s shirt after scoring in a clear gesture of support to his team-mate.
We’ll have to await further news on Gavi before we know for sure but the early reports suggest that we are in for some bad news.
