‘If it’s 10 months, it’s 10 months’

Gerard Pique has offered some advice to former Barcelona team-mate Gavi about his recovery from an ACL injury.

Gavi is set to go under the knife this week after suffering a serious knee injury while on international duty with Spain.

Pique says the teenager must take his time with his recovery, pointing out he still has “15-20 years” of his career left, and he should not rush back for next summer’s Euros.

“He is going to stop for a while, which is a huge bitch and there is nothing positive to get out of it,” he said. ”[He must] recover as best as possible, not to be in a hurry and if it’s 10 months, it’s 10 months.

“I have been in their position and I understand it, when you are a player you want to hurry up and get to the first important competition. Let him come back when he is well, which I suppose is what Barça and the national team will advise him.”

Initial estimates suggest Gavi will be out for at least eight months, meaning we will sadly not see him back in action for Barcelona until next season.
