Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is said to be “determined” to land Giovani Lo Celso in the January transfer and wants his club to back the signing.

Lo Celso has been linked with Barcelona regularly recently, particularly since Gavi was sidelined, and the latest update suggest Xavi really wants the Spurs man.

Sky Sports are reporting that Xavi has told Barca he wants Lo Celso and “the request is actually considered a test of how much support Xavi has” at Barcelona.

The club have backed Xavi in the transfer market since he arrived, despite the club’s ongoing financial difficulties, but have said they expect a quiet January.

Vitor Roque will arrive this winter from Athletico Paranaense but it remains to be seen if any other players will arrive to bolster the squad.

Tottenham are thought to be keen to keep hold of Lo Celso who has scored in two of his last four games, against Manchester City and Aston Villa.

It will be interesting to see if Barca do green light the move, particularly as Xavi’s long-term future at Barcelona is just starting to come under scrutiny this season.
