Girona defender Yan Couto has admitted he thought he was going to sign for Barcelona before ending up at Manchester City.
Barca were heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian back in 2020 he but ended up heading to the Premier League club instead after Pep Guardiola got in touch.
“After I became champion with Brazil U17, I was sure that I was going to sign for Barça. Then Guardiola called me and things changed,” he said.
Couto signed a five-year contract with the club but has since been sent out on loan to Girona twice and Braga once.
The full-back is enjoying life with the Catalan side again this season and has spoken about their chances of ‘pulling a Leicester’ and winning the league title.
“It is complicated (to do a Leicester) because there is still a lot of the leage left. We are at a very high level and we want to continue like this, with dreams to fulfill, like entering the Champions League, we have to go game by game,” he added.
Girona remain top of the table in Spain and will move nine points clear of Barcelona if they can beat Alaves on Monday night.
