Barcelona Femeni boss Jonatan Giraldez has confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
The coach has opted not to renew his contract but stopped short of revealing where he may be heading.
Giraldez did say “it will not be Europe” as he didn’t want to compete against Barca, with speculation suggesting he’s heading to the United States.
“I preferred not to be here today, but after Thursday’s information I am forced to appear. I informed the club a few days ago that I had no intention of renewing my contract. I considered that the timing was good and would allow the club to organize itself in time, seven months before the end of the season.
“I also wanted to avoid the focus being on my continuity in the months in which the titles are decided, I believed that by giving advance notice I would help the club and the players.
“I consider myself a very organized person and the order was very clear: first the club, then the players and later decide when it would become official.”
Giraldez was also quite cryptic about the reasons for his departure. He insisted it wasn’t about money but said only that he’d received an offer during contract negotiations with Barca that he plans to take up.
