Barcelona president Joan Laporta says the club are hoping to bring in a new midfielder in the January transfer window.

There have been lots of rumors about Barca adding another player this winter, along with Vitor Roque, and Laporta says they are optimistic.

“If we can improve our salary limit, our idea is to add another midfielder that can compensate for Gavi’s injury,” he told EFE.

“It would be a loan until the end of the season, a similar deal to what we did with Edgar Davids in 2005.

“We have until the end of this year to improve our salary limit through a number of deals we have ongoing. If they can be confirmed, we’ll be in contention of adding a new midfielder.”

Gavi has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL tear. There’s no doubt that the youngster has been missed since he’s been sidelined.

Barca have already been linked with a host of midfielders this season including Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso and Girona’s Aleix Garcia.
