PSV have confirmed they plan to activate the purchase option in Sergino Dest’s contract after being impressed by the Barcelona loanee.
Dest moved to the Eredivisie in the summer after a failed loan spell with AC Milan last season but is enjoying life with the table-toppers.
Director Earnest Stewart has apparently now informed reporters that the club have already decided they want to keep hold of Dest.
“It is true that there is an option to buy both players [Dest and Tillman],” he told the “Rondo” show on Ziggo Sport. “The expectation is that we will probably do something with that.”
Stewart also said that Dest and compatriot Tillman are both keen to stay
“Fortunately, yes. That is of course also very important. As a club you can want anything, but a player is very important in this,”he added. “You first discuss it with the player and his management, so it is a bit premature to say that here at this table.”
Barcelona will surely be delighted by the news. Xavi has made it clear that Dest is not part of his plans for the future after failing to be convinced by the USMNT defender.
It’s thought PSV can land Dest permanently for a fee of 10 million euros and Barca also reserve a right on any future sale.
Dest has managed to play regularly for PSV this season and helped them to the top of the table and into the last 16 of the Champions League. He scored his first goal for his new club at the weekend in a 4-0 win over AZ.
