Barcelona not thinking about sacking Xavi after Real Madrid defeat

The coach is safe for now

Xavi’s position as Barcelona boss is reportedly safe despite Sunday’s dismal defeat to Real Madrid in the Super Cup.

Diario AS are reporting that “Xavi continues” is the message from the board despite a series of poor results and performances from Barcelona.

Deco said as much after the game which saw Xavi apologise to supporters for his team’s defeat to their bitter rivals.

Barcelona now head into a Copa del Rey clash with Unionistas, a match they will be expected to win comfortably and progress in the competition.

Unionistas are the lowest ranked team left in the competition, but beat Villarreal last time out, although they are feeling confident ahead of the match.

“We believe,” they posted on X after the Super Cup final.

Defeat on Thursday is pretty unthinkable for Xavi and his side. Yet Barca haven’t been convincing recently and only booked their place in this round of the competition with a 3-2 win over Barbastro.
