Xavi wants new signings, but it won’t be possible

He would like a midfielder to supplant Gavi

Xavi thinks FC Barcelona needs a new signing in order to improve after their disastrous Spanish Supercup loss to Real Madrid. However, it’s understood that he will not get his wish this winter transfer window.

“I have already said that now it is impossible for another player to arrive. The situation of the club is what it is, and we cannot incorporate anyone new,” the coach said in the post-match press conference.

Barça were able to register young attacker Vitor Roque earlier in the window after a transfer from his club in Brazil, though he has not played very much yet.

But Barcelona have been unable to cope well with Gavi’s long-term injury, thus Xavi’s desire for a new combative midfielder.

An issue with a sponsor paying in the timeline the club has expected has left the team without the money to register another player. That issue could be solved in time to make a signing before the transfer window closes, but it will be very hard.

Meanwhile, Xavi has to find a way to improve the team in its current state.
