Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez felt his team suffered more than they should have against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on Sunday.
The Catalans made it through to the next round safely but were made to work hard to secure their 3-2 victory over the fourth-tier side.
Here’s what Xavi made of it all:
“We have suffered more than necessary because of our fault, because of our mistakes,” he said.
“The game gets complicated because we gave away a corner, it means 1-2 and they come out on top. For them it was the game of their life.
“I am left with the feeling that until the 1-2, which we gave away, we have been good in the game. And then with the penalty we suffered again. We give away things that we don’t have to give away .
“They tell me that Joao’s goal is a goal. It is a shame that in this competition there is no VAR in this tie. In 2024 there should be VAR even in lower category pitches.”
Barcelona and Xavi will now turn their thoughts to the Spanish Super Cup. Up first is a semi-final tie with Osasuna on Thursday in Saudi Arabia.
