Barcelona B manager Francisco Javier García Pimienta took time out to praise 16-year-old Ilias Akhomach after the youngster made his debut on Saturday.
The highly-rated teenager made his first appearance for Barca B in their final pre-season friendly against Cornella that ended in a 1-0 defeat.
Despite the loss Garcia Pimienta was in upbeat mood and sounded pretty optimistic about Akhomach’s future.
“It was the last game of preseason and we had players out and he’s already shown that he’s pushing with the youth teams,” he said.
“He’s a cheeky, brave player with a lot of quality, but he’s only 16. We have very young players and we can’t load them with too much responsibility.
“What’s clear is that the academy is bringing through a lot of players and he’s one that we will have in mind this season, for sure.”

Akhomach is technically part of the U19 team but was called up for training with Barca B before Saturday’s match. Garcia Pimienta’s team will now start their league campaign next Saturday.
