Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde faced the press on Friday ahead of Saturday’s eagerly-anticipated clash against La Liga leaders Sevilla.

Unsurprisingly he was asked about Neymar, how he’s getting on with Arturo Vidal and also about his defensive options with Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen injured.

Here are the best bits...

Valverde on Neymar

Any time of the season is good for thinking about these issues, but Neymar plays for a different team. This is all speculation.

It’s not even in a transfer period at the moment, so I can’t talk about a player and it’s not something that’d happen in the next month or so anyway.

Anything can happen in football, but it’s hard, unlikely. I don’t know, we’ll see.

Valverde on Arturo Vidal

We have the idea to solve the problems we have inside the dressing room, not outside, and we will keep things that way.

Yes, I have spoken with Arturo Vidal, of course, but I won’t detail about what. We try to deal with things this way so there’s not so much drama generated, like there has been in the last few weeks.

Valverde on Samuel Umtiti

He is following treatment to strengthen his muscles. We hope he will be back soon with us because there are important games coming up.

Valverde on defensive options

Busquets could play in defense, we’ll look for solutions if we need them. It’s possible that I will use players from the B team. We have quality to count on in the first team squad and in the B squad.

Valverde on Sevilla

Sevilla are a team on a good run. The game in the Super Cup is a reference point, but they can change the team and they have more options now.

Of course these upcoming three games are important, we play against Sevilla, the league leader. Since I arrived here it’s the first time that we are no league leaders so it’s different. We then player Inter and Real Madrid, we like it a lot.
