Jordi Alba was the player who joined Ernesto Valverde for his pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Inter.

The full-back talked about how he was going to miss playing with Lionel Messi but also urged his side to win game without their captain.

He was also asked about the situation at Real Madrid, where Julen Lopetegui is under severe pressure after a tough start to the season.

“All the people made decisions and at that moment Julen wanted to finish the World Cup and sign for Madrid, but then the president of the federation [Luis Rubiales] made the decision that he took,” he said.

”I have a great relationship with him, I have a great love for him because he has helped me a lot and I wish he could stay in the position.

”Although I did not like the team he joined, he deserves to continue because he is a great professional.”

Alba has lost his place in the Spain team after Lopetegui’s dismissal with Luis Enrique having left him out of both of his squads so far.

The Barcelona defender should get the chance to face Lopetegui on Sunday when Real Madrid are at Camp Nou, although reports suggest it could be his last game in charge if his side suffer another poor result in El Clasico.
