Arthur has become the latest Barcelona player to speak to the Players’ Tribune where he has talked in depth about his huge admiration for Andres Iniesta.

The 22-year-old says that Iniesta “was for many years the best player” and also explained how he inherited the Spaniard’s shirt after arriving from Gremio in the summer.

“When I arrived here they asked me what number I wanted to wear. To be honest I never cared too much about it.

“At Gremio I played with the No. 29 nothing special, it wasn’t like playing with 10, 8, 7, 11.

“I never really cared about it. So I replied “that’s OK you can give me any number you want to I’m already very happy and proud to play at Barcelona. But coincidentally I ended up with 8!”

Arthur also spoke about how he felt the first time he played at the Camp Nou and was introduced to the fans.

“When they announced ny name, just like Number 8, Arthur. The fans applauded me, I got goosebumps man!”

The midfielder has really staked a claim for a starting spot in the team this week after an impressive performance in his first Champions League start against Tottenham.

Ernesto Valverde now has to decide whether to stick with the Brazilian or not for Sunday’s trip to Mestalla to take on Valencia.
