Ernesto Valverde was full of praise for Ousmane Dembele after Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Villarreal at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

The France international put in a strong performance for the hosts and set up Gerard Pique for the opener on 36 minutes.

Dembele now has three assists and two goals in his last six Barcelona outings, and Valverde says he hopes he can maintain his current form.

“Dembele produced a great performance,” he said.

”He was one of the players that stood out. He has so many things to his game: pace, he can dribble, beat players, self-confidence, he takes risks... We hope he can keep showing that in the coming games.

”But this has been coming, it’s not an isolated [performance]. But we can also ask for more. He ended the game tired after the effort he put in and we’re really happy with him.”

Dembele was really lively down the right flank for Barcelona throughout the 90 minutes. His pace and runs causes Villarreal all sort of problems as he put in another effective display.
