Gerard Pique trained alone this week ahead of Barcelona’s fixture with Girona over the weekend. This games provides the perfect chance for Yerry Mina to step in and get some time in the Barcelona starting lineup.
Not to mention that even when Pique did play against Chelsea he was noticeably struggling in the first half and managed to continue despite looking noticeably lackluster. Ernesto Valverde acknowledged this after the draw in Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
“Pique struggled a bit in the first half,” the coach said. “But he ended the game better than we expected.”

This isn’t the game to throw all the cards down on the table with and risk further injuries for Pique. Give Mina or Thomas Vermaelen the start and avoid further injury to a key player for Barcelona coming down the stretch run in both La Liga and the Champions League.
