Barcelona are back in action on Saturday as Girona make the short trip to Camp Nou in La Liga.
Ernesto Valverde’s side go into the game off the back of a pretty tough Champions League draw against Chelsea on Tuesday. Girona, meanwhile, have been enjoying a great first season in La Liga and have had over a week to prepare.
The team has looked a bit jaded in recent weeks and also have a game against Las Palmas on Thursday. So, will Valverde look to rotate? Here’s a look at how they might line-up.
There may be changes in defence with Gerard Pique a doubt due to injury. If he misses out it’s between Thomas Vermaelen and Yerry Mina for a start alongside Samuel Umtiti.
Nelson Semedo could get a chance at right-back, to allow Sergi Roberto a breather, with Jordi Alba expected to continue at left-back and Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal.
We could also see changes in midfield in a bid to refresh and rejuvate the team. Philippe Coutinho should surely start after being cup-tied in midweek. Might we also see Ousmane Dembele?
The Frenchman is fit and ready to play, according to Valverde, and this looks the perfect game to let him start and see what he can do.
Paulinho looks like he needs a rest but we could see Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets start again, although Aleix Vidal, Andres Gomes and Denis Suarez are also options.
Lionel Messi finally ended his goal drought against Chelsea on Tuesday and it was a welcome strike by the Argentine who had five games without finding the back of the net.
Messi should start alongside Luis Suarez in attack, although Paco Alcacer is an option if Valverde feels either of his front two need a break.
Possible starting XI: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Vermaelen, Umtiti, Alba; Dembele, Rakitic, Busquets, Coutinho; Messi, Suarez.
