Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has defended Gerard Pique over his goal celebration against Espanyol on Sunday.
Pique has come under fire for his shushing gesture from La Liga president Javier Tebas who said it was provocative and that he could be punished for his actions.
However, Bartomeu has tried to calm the situation by saying it’s a normal celebration that has been seen many times before.
“It’s a celebration that many players use when they score. It is not the first time that we see that a player has silenced a stadium.
“It is normal, players have done it at the Camp Nou and in other stadiums. It is a normal celebration of an important goal that means we drew a few minutes from the end.
“Piqué explained that he was fed up with insults to his partner and his son.”

Bartomeu also added that Barcelona would not be filing a complaint about the abuse directed towards Pique but that the club hope the appropriate authorities “take note and act accordingly.”
