Barcelona released a statement making it clear they plan to appeal the red card that was given to centre-back Clement Lenglet in his first start for the club against Girona on Sunday.

Ernesto Valverde made it clear what he thought about the red card after the game, but now Barcelona are going to make it official.

“FC Barcelona will present an appeal to the Competition Committee for the red card shown to the player Clément Lenglet in the 34th minute of Sunday’s game at Camp Nou against Girona FC.

“The French defender was dismissed after a review using VAR and according to the referee’s report for ‘elbowing an opponent when both players were challenging for the ball’.”

The red card ended up having a big impact on the game for Barcelona. What looked like a win ended up being a draw that was nearly a loss. We’ll just have to sit back and see how the appeal process goes.
