Girona have issued a statement in which they say they have accepted La Liga’s proposal to play their home match against Barcelona in Miami.
There has been plenty of speculation that the clash between the two sides, scheduled for January 27, will take place in the United States.
Girona have now offered their side of the story, although they do state nothing is officially confirmed yet.
“The club confirms that it has received this proposal from LaLiga and is working in this line together with LaLiga and Barca, although there is no official confirmation that the game is will be played in Miami.
”The club has accepted the proposal understanding that it is a great possibility of expansion and growth, not only for Girona, but also for our city and our territory.
”A little over three years ago, the club fought against disappearing entirely and now our goal is to consolidate ourselves in LaLiga.
”This action would be another step within the idea of competing in the elite of football after the effort we have all made in recent years and that has led us to LaLiga.”

Despite Girona’s statement there will be huge opposition to the match.
The president of the Spanish Footballers’ Association has already said players are “outraged” at plans to play in the US.
Sergio Busquets has said players are “united” against plans to play abroad. It’ll be interesting to hear Barcelona’s response.
