La Liga is finally back (yay!) after the Christmas break and first up for Barcelona is a trip to Getafe.

The club’s injury situation is improving, but Ernesto Valverde will still be without Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen in defence.

Sergio Busquets is a doubt in midfield after missing training on Friday due to illness, so let’s have a look at who might feature at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday.

Sergi Roberto is closing in on a return to action after injury, but it’s likely Nelson Semedo will continue at right-back.

Elsewhere, injuries mean that Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet will continue at the heart of the defence, while new signing Jeison Murillo may make the bench.

Jordi Alba will complete the back four at left-back, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal as usual.

Busquets’ fitness is the main cause of concern in the middle of the park, and Barcelona may have to cope without the midfielder for this one.

If he does miss out then Ivan Rakitic or Arturo Vidal are the most likely options to take his role in the team, which could also see Arthur handed a return to the starting XI.

There are plenty of other options available. Carles Alena or Denis Suarez could also get the nod, while Philippe Coutinho could drop back into midfield.

Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi were both in great form before the Christmas break, and Ernesto Valverde will be hoping they can pick up where they left off.

The young Frenchman’s form has seen Coutinho left on the bench, and he’s likely to start ahead of the Brazilian again on Sunday.

Luis Suarez will also feature up front, he drew a blank against Celta Vigo last time out but is enjoying another strong campaign with 11 La Liga goals already.

Barcelona possible XI: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Vidal, Rakitic, Arthur; Dembele, Messi, Suarez.
