Ernesto Valverde defended Barcelona’s away form after the Spanish champions dropped points again on their road in a 2-2 draw against Sociedad.

Barca went behind to Mikel Oyarzabal’s 12th minute penalty but took the lead in the second half through goals from Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez.

However, they could not hold on to all three points as Alexander Isak netted an equaliser to leave Barca just a point clear at the top of La Liga.

”Well, today we were against a great team that is having a great season with really good attackers.

“We’ve struggled like anyone else (away from home). I don’t see any sides playing and dominating away from home.

“Not just in the league, also in the Champions League. Every now and again there’s a hammering, but in general, it’s very equal.”

Barcelona have won four of nine away games in La Liga in 2019-20, although only Sevilla (with five) have been more successful on the road in the Spanish top flight.

Real Madrid have won four of seven away matches and face Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday night where a win will take them top.
