Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde says he is counting on midfielders Arturo Vidal and Carles Alena after Saturday’s 4-1 win over Alaves at the Camp Nou.
The two players started in midfield alongside Sergio Busquets and enjoyed a good afternoon as Barca signed off 2019 with a win.
Both players have been rumored to be leaving the club in January, but Valverde’s post-match comments suggest they are going nowhere.
“I really appreciate the contribution of the two. We are fortunate to have many options in the middle third.
”They have been very good. They will be with us at the beginning of the year. I’m counting on them, of course.”

Vidal was on target against Alaves with his fifth La Liga goal of the season, although he has only started four times in the league for Valverde’s side.
Alena has seen less game time but has appeared back in favour in recent weeks.
There is still some uncertainty over his future as Getafe president Angel Torres has said this week he is planning to speak to Barca about their midfielder.
