Real Valladolid boss Sergio Gonzalez reckons Lionel Messi should not be risked against his side on Saturday and should take it easy on the sofa instead.

Barcelona return to La Liga action at the Camp Nou against Real Valladolid with some doubt over whether their captain will start the match.

Messi has been nursing a slight niggle and Barcelona also face Lyon in the Champions League on Tuesday which makes Sergio believe a rest would be a good idea.

“Hopefully. If he wants to rest, I would tell him that the sofa is very good and I’m sure his is comfortable. If there are others who want to rest, let them, it’s no problem,” he said.

“They are sublime players, internationals. It doesn’t matter who plays, they are all world class. But, if Messi wants to rest, I insist, let him.”

Barcelona won 1-0 back in August when the two teams met at the Estadio José Zorrilla with Ousmane Dembele scoring the only goal of the game.
