Barcelona confirmed on Sunday that striker Luis Suarez suffered a sprained ankle in their 4-1 win over Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin.

The Uruguayan produced a fine performance, scoring his 18th La Liga goal of the season and also producing a clever assist for Messi.

However, he hobbled off the pitch at the end of the match after picking up a knock to his ankle.

The hope is that he will not be out of action for too long:

The injury comes at a fairly good time for Barcelona, as they do not return to action until March 30 when Espanyol visit the Camp Nou.

Suarez had been called up by Uruguay, who play Uzbekistan in the China Cup on March 22, but it looks like he will not now join up with the national team.
