Every Barcelona fan knows the story. In 2017 when Neymar left Barcelona, the club decided to replace him with Ousmane Dembele for a hefty £120m. The move was seen as a long-term one given the youth of Dembele.
According to Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu, that project has gotten to the finish line. In an interview Bartomeu said that he believes Dembele is now a better player than the man he was brought in to replace.
“The level of Dembele is now better than that of Neymar,” he told Spanish television. ”He is a much better player and has adapted now.”

A president bolstering the the confidence of a young player is nothing new, but the way that Bartomeu went about this one is odd. Why he would feel the need to put this kind of comparison out there is pretty wild. Even the most optimistic Dembele fans would say he still has a ways to go to be considered among the world’s best.
