Ernesto Valverde says Barcelona still need to ‘finish the job’ after Atletico win

Ernesto Valverde admitted that Saturday’s 2-0 win over Atletico was an important result but says Barcelona still need to go on and “finish the job.”

The victory puts Barcelona on the brink of the title, as they move 11 points clear with just seven games left to play.

However, Valverde says that despite their massive advantage, it’s not over just yet.

“Three fundamental points, a really important result, we’re closer but there’s still a long way to go,” he said.

“You have to finish the job. It’s true it was a fundamental game and these three points could mean a lot at the end of the season. We’re happy because of the opponent we were facing, [Atletico] are an enormous team that have fought until the end with 10 men.”

However, Barcelona will now turn their attentions to European competition, as they face a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the Champions League next.
