Sergino Dest has offered a response to those who think he may have made the switch to Barcelona too early in his career by explaining why he didn’t hesitate to say yes when the Catalan giants came calling.

The USMNT starlet is still only 19 but secured a move from Eredivisie side Ajax to the Camp Nou before the close of the summer transfer window .

Dest has spoken out again about the move and says that while it’s a big challenge he thinks he will develop quicker than if he’d stayed at Ajax.

“People may think that I went to Barcelona too early, that I should have stayed longer at Ajax. When you go to Spain to live there, you learn Spanish earlier and better than if you stayed in the Netherlands. That’s how I see it with football. I think that when I’m in Barcelona I can develop to a certain level faster. It’s a challenge, but I love it.”

Dest has not been at the club long but has already made his debut in both La Liga and the Champions League.

The teenager has filled in so far at left-back, due to Jordi Alba’s recent injury, but will be hoping he can displace Sergi Roberto on the opposite flank under Ronald Koeman.
