Van Gaal says De Jong could play as a center-back for Barcelona

Former Barcelona boss and current giver of opinions Louis van Gaal gave some thoughts on Frenkie de Jong this week.

Van Gaal says that he believes De Jong could lead the Barcelona defense. It seems like Van Gaal is both referring to him playing in the deep midfield or as a center-back in his own right.

When asked about whether or not the midfielder could play at center-back, Van Gaal responded emphatically.

”No. Frenkie de Jong has speed. He also has the insight to defend forwards at the right moments.

”Barca could improve the centre of defence by putting Frenkie there. He is doing very well if we consider that he is a 22-year-old who has just gone abroad to a different culture.

”Barca paid a high price for him, which adds more pressure.”
