Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has been talking about Ajax’s Sergino Dest and Barcelona midfielders Riqui Puig and Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutch coach reckons 19-year-old Dest would be a good fit for Barcelona amid speculation the club are interested.
Dest fuelled speculation recently with an Instagram post which showed him wearing the club’s training gear.
Here’s what Koeman makes of it all:
“Sergiño Dest is a winger for teams like Barcelona. He’s one of those offensive full-backs who is fast and is comfortable with the ball. He has a great future on any team.”
The Dutch coach was also asked about Riqui Puig and believes he could learn a lot from a loan spell in Amsterdam with Ajax.
“It is important that at that age the players play a lot. In Holland the league is not as strong as in Spain, but it is a perfect school to learn and have minutes, especially in teams like Ajax, which give you an extraordinary opportunity.”
It’s not quite clear yet what will happen with Puig next season. There’s a chance he could be promoted to the first team, while Real Betis have been linked with a loan move.
Finally, Koeman also spoke about De Jong and how Barcelona need to be patient with the midfielder and let him develop at the Camp Nou.
“Frenkie is very young and you have to give him time. I am convinced that in a short time he will demonstrate his quality at Barça, as he demonstrated at Ajax and he shows it in the national team.
“De Jong is a player who can adapt to a more advanced position than he is used to playing, but I think his best position is that of Busquets, close to defense.”

Koeman also reiterated once again that it remains his “dream” to coach Barcelona and that he hopes to get the chance in the future.
