Is it the Dutchman’s final game in charge?

Ronald Koeman has faced the press ahead of potentially his last game in charge of Barcelona on Saturday against Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

The Dutch coach did address the rumors about his future and indeed kicked off his presser with a big smile by saying, “Let’s remember Louis van Gaal with this phrase. Good morning my friends in the press.”

This unsurprisingly swiftly brought the question of whether he was staying to which Koeman replied, “I’m still staying, yes.”

Here’s the rest of the presser.

Koeman on if it’s his last game

Nobody has said anything to me. I’ve learned the president was here this morning but I’ve not seen him. The club have said nothing to me. I have ears, I have eyes. I already know they leak a lot of things, but they’ve not said anything to me.

Koeman on how he handles the situation

That’s a question for tomorrow. I am not the most important thing but the team. The team must get a positive result. I am here for the love of Barca, I came in a very complicated situation and it seems more complicated now than the first day. Everyone has their opinion but I am only interested in the players and preparing for the game.

Koeman on what Barca are missing

There’s a lack of balance. We have few attackers available. Ansu is on his way back but it will take a while after so much time away. We lack one-on-one players and speed and effectiveness. Atletico created fewer chances than us last season but they are capable of having a shot on goal and scoring. The other day in the Champions League we had four chances, and you have to score one or two goals, but we didn’t. And that costs.

Koeman on how he’s feeling amid all the speculation

Honestly, I could be better.

Koeman on his best and worst moments at Barcelona

Do I have to answer this? It’s as if I’m already gone. The best moment was definitely signing the contract to become the Barca coach. The worst? Lionel Messi’s departure.

Koeman on if he feels a lack of respect towards him

It’s not necessary to answer that. What do you think? It’s not even about being good or bad. For me, it’s the treatment that matters.

Koeman on if another coach would do better

I don’t know, do I also have to speak for another coach? There are many young people. There is a lot of talk about the system and it is because there are other players available. If I had a bag of money, Messi would still be here. And I would bring in other players to dominate and press.

Koeman on rating his time at Barca

I’m sick of defending myself. Anyone can analyse the situation of the club and the team. We’ve done important things despite having to make big changes at the club. There will be people that think there has been a lack of respect and think that the club must give this team time. I would like to explain myself when the day arrives

Koeman on how Barca can improve

Work and change things on the team. We are going to recover important people, especially in attack, and we have to follow this plan. And I know it depends on the results because that’s normal.

Koeman on Atletico

They were champions last season. They deserved it with their game. They are competitive. It is difficult to find gaps and they defend very well in their area. They are a great team. You have to try to be good with the last pass to create opportunities. Surely we will not have more chances than against Benfica but if we have three or four, we have to score to win.

Koeman on Jordi Cruyff

It is true that from day one he told me that he would not be a coach at this club. He told the club. I talk to him every day and what I talk to him about is between us.
