Former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has been talking about Xavi’s return to the Camp Nou and thinks it’s great news for the Catalan giants and La Liga in general.
Xavi will be officially presented as Barca’s new coach today and will take his first training session with the team on Tuesday.
Rakitic played alongside Xavi at Barcelona and told Cope that he’s confident the 41-year-old will do a good job after replacing Ronald Koeman.
He said, “I wish Xavi the best. His return is great news for Barcelona and for La Liga. I have no doubts that he will succeed.”
Rakitic also admitted that he wished he could have played with Xavi for longer as he “would have liked to have learnt more from him.”
Xavi takes over a Barcelona team that is down in ninth in the table, already 11 points behind leaders Real Sociedad. The Catalans also trail Rakitic’s Sevilla team who are one point behind the leaders.
Barcelona and Sevilla were due to meet in September in La Liga but the game was postponed because of late-running World Cup qualifiers in South America. It’s still not been confirmed when the match will take place.
