Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde said Lionel Messi could return from injury against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The captain has been out of action since breaking his arm against Sevilla, but he returned to training this week and will be assessed on Sunday.

“I think we all play better with Messi in the side. We will see how he is in training [on Sunday] with regards to the Inter game this week.”

“We have to be happy with the result. Maybe their first goal came from us not controlling the situation and losing the ball two or three times in a row. They grew from there.

”It was complicated. We always want to play football, although they sat back quite a lot. It was tough to break them down. At 2-1 down, we persevered and we, in the end, we got the prize for pressing well.”
