Ernesto Valverde reckons his Barcelona players won’t need any motivating for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Lyon.

The team warmed up for the game with a 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, and Valverde said after the game his team know exactly what is needed in the Champions League.

“We don’t need to motivate the players or the fans for next week’s match. We all know what is at stake,” he said

“Last week against Real Madrid, we didn’t need any special motivation. Against Rayo was very strange because it’s not Madrid, it’s not the Champions League, but they scored first and the atmosphere was strange.

“Every game is important and you need to be on your toes in every match. You win titles and win trophies when you are consistent throughout the year.

“Of course the next one is a big one against Lyon, it’s different because of the opponent, because of the competition and we’ve seen other big teams get eliminated.”
