Frenkie de Jong says he’s hoping to shrug off an ankle problem and be fit to face Juventus in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final.

The midfielder admits he does have a little problem but is looking forward to the game against the Italian champions.

“I have a little pain in the ankle, but I don’t think it’s anything serious. I am doing everything possible to recover and I am convinced I will be fine. I hope to be ready for the Juve game,” he said.

“Juve are one of the favourites for the Champions League. We have shown what we can do in Europe and if we improve in some things we can be difficult to knock out. Juve are better than Real Madrid, so we need something more. I back the team.”

De Jong’s Ajax side produced one of the shocks of the tournament in the last round to dump holders Real Madrid out of the tournament, and they will be underdogs again when they take on Juve.
