Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen have both been named in the Champions League squad of the season.

UEFA have picked a 20-man squad containing the best players to feature in Europe’s top competition this season and it makes for interesting reading.

Barcelona new arrival Frenkie de Jong also makes the cut alongside Ajax team-mates Matthijs de Ligt, Hakim Ziyech, David Neres and Dusan Tadic.

Champions League winners Liverpool have six players in the squad, while beaten finalists Tottenham have three. Cristiano Ronaldo also makes the list and there are also players from Lyon and Manchester City.
