Lionel Messi was named UEFA’s Forward of the Season, while Frenkie de Jong picked up the best midfielder award during the draw for the Champions League group stage on Thursday.
However, Messi missed out when it came to the UEFA Player of the Year Award, as Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk scooped the top prize.
The Barcelona captain was named the competition’s best forward, beating Sadio Mane and Ronaldo to the prize.
