Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus is hoping Lionel Messi plays for Barcelona against his side in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Messi has been included in the squad after recovering from a calf injury picked up in pre-season and could make his first appearance of the new campaign at the Westfalenstadion.

Reus was asked about the GOAT in Dortmund’s pre-match press conference and would like to see him in the starting XI.

“I would be happy if he played. They are better with him because he has abilities which nobody else has,” he said.

“It is important to start well in the group. We are confident enough to say that we can win the game. We want to test ourselves against the best clubs. We have to be bold, push forward and try to score goals.”

Dortmund boss Lucien Favre added that Barcelona are “good with or without” Messi, although it remains to be seen if the GOAT will start the match in Germany.
