Ronald Koeman has left both Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong out of his Barcelona squad to face Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday in the Champions League.

The Dutch coach has decided now is the time to rest the duo who have both featured in all Barca’s games so far in 2020-21.

Barca are in a strong position in the group after three wins from their opening three games but had to work hard to win the reverse fixture 2-1 despite Dynamo Kiev missing a host of players due to Covid-19.

De Jong had been expected to play in central defence with Gerard Pique ruled out because of a knee injury, but it now looks as though 21-year-old Oscar Mingueza could make his debut.

There will also be changes in attack with Messi out of the match, and it will be fascinating to see how Koeman lines his team up on Tuesday night.
