Ronald Koeman explains where Barcelona must improve after UCL win

The Dutchman wants more from his players

Ronald Koeman explained where he thinks his Barcelona team must improve after Wednesday’s Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev at the Camp Nou.

Barca ran out 2-1 winners but needed returning goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to make several important saves in order to take all three points.

Lionel Messi’s early penalty got Barca off to a great start but they failed to build on the early advantage, and Koeman highlighted what he feels needs to change after the match.

“We started the game well, quickly going 1-0 up with the penalty and with chances to score more. But little by little we lost control of the game. They created a lot of danger at moments but thanks to Marc, who was phenomenal. In the end, 2-1, complicated, above all without the ball was not good today.

“For me the problem is sometimes you can’t press ... and if you do press you leave space to play. If we press, everyone has to press, the defence high, and I think there have been doubts there. They played well and created a lot of danger.”

”In general, we’ve been OK defensively. In no game has a team created the danger that they did today. But without the ball we have to improve.”

Koeman will now turn his thoughts back to La Liga and the visit of Real Betis. The team’s La Liga form has has been pretty poor recently, with just two points from their last 12, and the Dutchman needs a win on Saturday at the Camp Nou.
